On the occasion of the centennial of the founding of the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, a series of public lectures were held at the Academia Literary Café in the Wenceslas Square in Prague (every Tuesday from 25 January to 15 March 2022, always at 5 pm). The fifth lecture of the cycle was delivered by Ondřej Klimes. The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (also called East or Chinese Turkestan) is a strategically located and resource-rich northwestern border region of China. Since 2016, the ruling Chinese Communist Party, led by General Secretary Xi Jinping, has intensified its previously restrictive practices against the Uyghurs, Kazakhs and other Muslim nationalities. Given the overall developments in the People's Republic of China and its rise on the international stage, the situation in Xinjiang is an important issue of international politics.

U příležitosti 100. výročí založení Orientálního ústavu Akademie věd ČR se v Literární kavárně Academia v Praze na Václavském náměstí uskutečnil cyklus veřejných přednášek (každé úterý od 25. ledna do 15. března 2022, vždy od 17 hodin). Pátá přednáška cyklu od Ondřeje Klimeše. Ujgurská autonomní oblasti Sin-ťiang (zvaná též Východní nebo Čínský Turkestán) je strategicky položeným a surovinově bohatým severozápadním pohraničím Číny. Od roku 2016 tam vládnoucí Komunistická strana Číny pod vedením generálního tajemníka Si Ťin-pchinga zesílila dosavadní restriktivní postupy vůči Ujgurům, Kazachům a dalším muslimským národnostem. Vzhledem k celkovému vývoji v Čínské lidové republice i k jejímu vzestupu na mezinárodní scéně je situace v Sin-ťiangu důležitou otázkou mezinárodní politiky.
