This project was supported by the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Strategy AV21 research program of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic - was created in response to the serious threat to Mosul's architecture by the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS, Daesh), which controlled the city from June 2014 to July 2017. During these three years, the Islamic State severely damaged or completely razed more than 40 historical monuments, among them mosques, churches, shrines, tombs and cemeteries.
