en On the occasion of the centennial of the founding of the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, a series of public lectures were held at the Academia Literary Café in the Wenceslas Square in Prague (every Tuesday from 25 January to 15 March 2022, always at 5 pm). The fifth lecture in the series was given by Pavel Hons. Various governments in India have been trying to deal with discrimination on the basis of birth in a particular caste for over a century. Despite this, the caste system still holds on and can surprise us unpleasantly with some of its manifestations. Which communities have a vested interest in maintaining casteism and which communities are trying to get rid of it? What strategies are they using to do so? And how has the caste system changed over the course of its existence? These are the questions that this lecture attempts to answer. See all items with this value
