On the occasion of the centennial of the founding of the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, a series of public lectures were held at the Academia Literary Café in the Wenceslas Square in Prague (every Tuesday from 25 January to 15 March 2022, always at 5 pm). In the seventh lecture, Hana Třísková presented her textbook "Speak Chinese nicely: prosody of colloquial Chinese." This guide illuminates what happens sonically to Chinese words when they enter the reality of continuous speech. It explains the basic prosodic phenomena of colloquial Chinese (accent, phrasing or intonation, etc.) and includes a USB flash disc with example sentences. This is a professional, phonetically informed publication, but it presents the information in an accessible and playful way and is richly illustrated in colour, which makes it easier to absorb the complex material. The lecture was accompanied by an exhibition of cheerful colour illustrations by the academic painter Zhang Dan Gajdošova. See all items with this value
